It has (as I said, Windows writes erroneously GB instead of GiB) formatted nor effective 465 MiB for disposal, which corresponds to 499.3 GB. So you've lost by formatting such as 700 MB.

So I once considered the data more closely.

The hard drive already has 465 gigabytes. The only problem is the conversion.
Man charged in advertising accessible by 1000 if you extrapolate from bytes to kilobytes. And so on.
So are 1000 megabytes to gigabytes 1Gigabyte instead of 0.9765625.

My above mentioned hard drive has 500105216000 bytes exactly.
And those are exactly 465.75927734375 in gigabytes gigabytes.

But because 500Gigabyte already reading and the number is already straight, they say just 500GB instead of 465 gigabytes. So rather than divide the bytes by 1024 (Binarsystem) as containing correct software, you share just through 1000 (decimal). Therefore, the specified Grou on hard drives just not quite right and the hard drive has apparently less memory when you see the Grouenangabe in Windows. Seller and the try just always with the formatting and the file system used to cover up.

The statement from the Explorer is therefore 100% correct.

You are thinking backwards. The Explorer shows you not gigabytes, but Gibyte.
It is expected not only in advertising with 1000, but virtually all Kapazitaetsangaben. Similarly, in data transfer rates. The manufacturers give these values are correct to the decimal system, because the higher levels of course work in their favor.

Your drive has 500105216000 bytes.
This is in gigabytes (10 ^ 9) 500.105216000.
And in gibibyte (2 ^ 30) is exactly 465.75927734375.

In the decimal part is correct by 1000 to share in the decimal system by 1024 is wrong.
You share in the binary system by 1024 But in the binary system Dezimalpraefixe (Kilo, Mega, Giga) to use is incorrect. We used Binaerpraefixe (Kibi, MEBI, Gibi). Windows does not comply with any such international standard, and used erroneously Dezimalpraefixe for the binary system.

This international standard is not at all twice as old.
The first time is Begenet me about this so 2001-2002.

Before that was actually always used the Dezimalvresion.
The Binarschreibweise I've only seen such from around 2001 or read.

But no matter dauber argue now the ghosts.

eigendlich this is not the topic here, but it will be executed sequentially from kilobytes and kilobits spoken and any conversions. my knowledge is a byte = 8 bits means the conversion factor is 8 and not 10 heist one gigabyte are gigabit 8th in my time was a megabyte 1024 kbyte Convert this reason was never released in an even number. a 456 gigabyte drive for sale as a 500 gb is eigendlich kaeufertaeuschung.

presented in June 1996, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) a draft standard for Binarprafixe. This design was adopted in December 1998 as a standard and published in January 1999 as a supplement to IEC 60027-2. The Binarprafixe are now supported by other standards organizations (eg, IEEE 1541, BIPM / CIPM, NIST, CENELEC, DIN / EN, PTB).

I think you mixed as 3 different things.
A byte is already over and bit undisputed 8th That had never what to do with 10.
1024 bytes are referred to earlier earlier due to lack of Preafixen as kilobytes. Correct, but only 1000 bytes = 1 kilobyte. After the above-mentioned standard 1024 bytes are referred to as KibiByte.
A 500 GB drive always advertised 500GB (10 ^ 9 bytes) added. These correspond to 465 GiB (2 ^ 30 bytes). Here, no buyer is deceived, or else it would have therefore been many court cases. This only creates confusion Windows, since it erroneously called the 465 GiB than 465 GB.

The problem here is dependent only, if a drive advertised with 500Gigabyte who think most of it really were 500Gigabyte available.
This, however, by the conversion factor in 1024 containing less is to Gigabyte because only few know. Which Otto Normal User EMPLOYMENT deal with all the conversion factors.

And a disk is in advertising, never applied to byte, because 1) the number not at all fit in the advertising field, 2) which user can sometimes indicate the number in Gigaybte convert without a calculator, the facts of gigabytes to learn Grou.

To have real 500Gigabyte was ordered, the hard disk have 536 870 912 000 bytes.

But I think we now really zuruckkehren again on the topic. Snaosnten we lose ourselves still in the infinity of binary numbers.

Somehow agrees with the bill but not the 1024.
I bought a 320GB disk. But this is meant bytes (320 062 062 592 bytes). At the same time, however, indicates that my record disposes of 298 GB.
It but had to be 312.5 GB. The divisor corresponding tatsachle but 1074th

Hi little witch.

Цffne times the Explorer. Then open your hard disk in question right click and go to properties.

Then you have about the pie chart dirket once the storage capacity in bytes, for example with me 500 105 216 000 bytes.
And right next to the words in gigabytes, 465 gigabytes with me.

And the divisor is 1024

If I convert your statement correctly, then the bytes 320 062 062 592 by 1024 I'll always share exactly the 298 gigabytes. Why do you think that your hard drive should have 312.5 gigabytes. If I was President eiler take of 1074, I even just kame 258 357 GB.

In addition, the statement in gibibyte (falsely declared as a gigabyte), so 465 Gibyte.
