Update: Seems like they have a new kind of preventative measure in place, explanation below.

BEFORE I run the PTR client, I see these files:

FYI: Custom Patches Might Not Work in Cata Anymore

Nothing extreme except for different file names.

But AFTER I run the PTR client, I see these additional files:

FYI: Custom Patches Might Not Work in Cata Anymore

Now. When I run the regular WoW client, my patches stay my patches and no new files appear when I have the game running.

It appears that this is an attempt by Blizzard to 'lock' the files from being edited.

Older info:

I'm trying out the new things and events in the PTR and decided to bring one of the model edits into the PTR Data folder, when I noticed there are no more "patch" file names in there. (See Image).

Update: Image has been updated after completely downloading ALL of the PTR client.

Still, I threw in the blood elf patch and ran the PTR WoW. Simply put, it crashed at the character menu.

I have no idea if this means that Blizzard is combating texture/model edits in this fashion, but I simply wanted the MOD community to be aware of it since I do not see anyone else talking about it right now.

Also, my PTR client download is not completely finished yet, so that may be part of the reason why it's crashing. Yet I feel that this probably has to do with them re-organizing the file structure.

Perhaps the "patches" would work under a different file name.

And, I've got Arokh's Armory working again:

Re: FYI: Custom Patches Might Not Work in Cata Anymore

All I had to do was repack it with Ladik's Beta MPQ editor and changed Items\Texturecompenents folder names to ITEMS\TEXTURECOMPONENTS and it booted right up. So it looks like the folder names are CASE SENSITIVE.

So I'm guessing for Macintosh users like me, the situation is even bleaker. Re: FYI: Custom Patches Might Not Work in Cata Anymore

I just double checked my path names, and as you can see, they're identical to what's in the art MPQ. So I'm not convinced that the issue is as simple as thatTry look inside at the Patch MPQ
they looked very different from any older once

Yeah, but it had an issue with one of the idle animations. It'd just freezeframe instead of doing it. But other animations (such as when talking, or alternative idle animations) worked just fine on live. I'll be very very sad too about characters not working, though the hit box detection is in the m2 so...

Wow, really, Blizzard? 12/7 was the original 9/11. Not that I think they mean anything by it, but why even invite a comparison?

Non player model edits work (such as redaxle's statue edits), but ones with animation seem to have glitches in them (they freeze as though they're missing an animation or two).

Also, some of the blp files (mostly the ones with BLP) seem to be protected, or my blpconverter isn't converting them into the correct format. Edits made to those don't show up.

And lastly, tested on beta:
Re: FYI: Custom Patches Might Not Work in Cata Anymore

There seems to be some minor changes needed, or a case of more protected/changed blps (the pants edit works on live using the same MPQ)

Screenshot is in badlands, would've done nude worgen female but didn't have the skins. :p
